I was at Herzo Base from June 1965 to August 1968. I was an 05H (manual morse) operator in the operations building on Dawg trick. I remember right before I shipped out to return to US (land of the round doorknobs), Russia invaded Czechoslovakia and I really feared that I wouldn't be able to leave. As it turned out I was able to out-process and returned home to Nebraska. Some of the best times of my life were those living in Herzogenaurach and traveling around all of Europe. I miss those times and people and often think of them and what ever happened to them.

Hi, I was stationed at Herzo Base from May, 1968 to April, 1971. I worked in the Comm Center, Camera Club, and EM Club. I am looking for Tom Gorek, Ishmael Taylor, and Bill McPeake and anyone else that might remember me. I was married in the Catholic chapel in 1970 to a girl that lived just a few blocks up the street from me in Oshkosh. We are still married, 40 years later. We lived in Hessdorf while we lived in Germany and then we went to Montana, courtesy of the military.

Hello! My name is Rafael Olmo and I was stationed in Herzo Base from Feb 1984 to Mar 1987. I was assigned to Bump City 3/37 FA during the first year there, the second year I was assigned to Svc Btry 3/37 to the newly formed Ammo Plt as a chief of section, and finally the last year I went back to Bump City as 1st gun section chief. I remember a lot of good people I was able to meet there. 1st SGT Jones was our first sgt and SFC Bennett was our chief of firing btry. SSG Marquez, SSG Afanador,SSg Howard, are some of the fellow section chiefs there. Some of the best and wildest times I had while in the military was at Herzo. Pablo's corner bar was one of my hang outs so was Martha's place, the Luviduck, Hollywood and at the end of the night there was the Gray Cat to get revived with some great food prior to taxi back to the main gate at Herzo so at 10am get to start it all over again all weekend long. And who don't remember or famous NCO club (what else was at Herzo during week nights). Now, duty there wasn't easy, all those middle of the night alerts praying that you didn't have to leave the motor pool. Who don't remember freezing our butts all day long doing maintenance in the motor pool all day long. Graff wasn't bad in the summer but in winter was another story. How about Nato 23 guard duty 30 days at a time, SA-1B ammo guard, reactionary force, ect, etc. I leaned a lot there about hard work and being an NCO. All those memories will stay in me forever.

I was HHB 3/37th FA BN at HERZO BASE from APRIL 1984-NOV 1985, when LTC Sam W. Floca was our Battalion Commander.
I used to run with CPL HOWARD (RAY) BOONE from Camden, SC and SGT MIKE (BAT FINK) FINK who lived in Wisconsin, plus others whom I can't remember their names.
Hung out down at THE CORNER BAR, MARTHA'S, THE GREY CAT, THE HOLLYWOOD, THE NASHVILLE, THE GREEN GOOSE, and the Disco place that was in Herzo, but I don't remember the name of it either.
DRANK MANY BEERS, ATE MANY MEALS, PARTIED HARD, BURNED UP THE ROADS, TRAIN ROUTES, & NBG U-BAHN LINES and even LOVED a couple of different girls while I was there. (German & US)
Now that the holidays are coming I MISS HERZO and the people, they were GREAT folks!!
WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO WAS THERE AND REMEMBERS ME ANY MY CRAZY SELF..
PEACE & LOVE TO ALL,
Gary

My wife (Kathy) and I were at Herzo right after we were married and spent our first 2 1/2 years of married life there, living in Hauptendorf. What a wonderful experience! We loved every minute of it. Some of our favorite activities were going to the Nurnberg PX cafeteria for the "Steak Nights", going to Berchtesgaden, and using our area map and going "Castle Hunting" to all the ruined castles within a radius of 50 or so miles. We were active in the Protestant Chapel, Kathy taught at the pre-school on base for 2 years, and I was the clerk for the 05D Section in the Operations Compound. We are looking for Clyde and Teresa James, Danny Jones, Tim Leitel (spelling?) from the the east coast (Jersey?) and John and Jeri Stoddard. Please contact us using the aol address.

Hi! I am a former Army brat, born at the Nurenburg Hospital in 1970 - my dad was stationed at Herzo 1967-1970 - my mom did the books at the PX and played the organ at the chapel occasionally. We lived in Herzo in an apartment. Does anyone remember Ronald Hile from that time period? In 1969 you would have seen him stenciling "Think Pink" on anything that would stay still long enough!! I would love to hear from anyone who knew him, or my mother, Elaine.

Great to hear that the memory of Herzo Base lives on. I was stationed with the HHB 210th Field Artillery Group as a medic and as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor.I arrived in Ansbach,Germany Feb 1971 The 210th was moved to Herzo Base in June of that year.I had a great time there and meet alot of good people. I wish I had seen more of the countryside.Always wonder what happened to all the guys that I hung around with. I left with an early out in april of 1973. Vic from Chicago was one person whom tracked me down and was great to talk to him. I do miss the Beer and Wine Festivals. Had some great times. To all the other Veterans " Thanks For your A Job Well Done" I salute you all !!!

I was assigned to the 318th ASA(COMSEC) from Feb. 69 to June 70. After two tours in the Nam, I thought this was heaven! While inprocessing I was informed I would be sent to a 12 man detachment at Hohenfels. I was really depressed. But it turned out to be the best 18 months of my 20 year military career. What little time I spent at Herzo Base was great. Great to hear so many people enjoyed their military service days.
